Sylvester "Red" SanFelice Interview
Sylvester “Red” SanFelice (1924-2001) was a well-known and active member of the early West Side community. Sylvester was born to an Italian immigrant father and American mother and expressed his Italian American identity through celebrating the Feast of St. Michael’s on the West Side and the Feast of Assumption in Mechanicville. Throughout his interview, Sylvester maps out his life through the changes in his employment, from pedaling papers as a young boy to working 40-hour weeks at Van Raalte Mill. He tells various stories of his neighborhood, which discloses his deep-seated value for community unity—something that he believes to be absent in today’s society.
